Changing of the Weathervane January 2010
The weathervane on the Church was removed for regilding in January 2010. The steeplejacks mentioned the tradition of children jumping over the weathervane while it was on the ground (so that in future years they could point to the cockerel atop the steeple and say, truthfully, “I once jumped over that!” On 31 January about 30 children and parents gathered at the playing field and jumped the weathervane.
The weathervane (which is made of copper and probably dates from the 1870s) was then regilded by Nigel Ashby in 23¾carat gold and replaced on the church spire at the end of February. (Click on an image for a full size picture.)
